Diagnosis and Surgical Correction of Medial Patellar Subluxation
نویسنده
چکیده
This article reviews the clinical entity of medial patellar subluxation, including relevant anatomic and biomechanical factors. Most cases of medial patellar subluxation occur as a late complication of lateral retinacuiar release. Symptoms include pain, disability, crepitus, and intermittent swelling. Clinical signs include subluxation of the patella with manual medial glide, an observable defect in the vastus lateralis tendon, and positive apprehension with medial patellar glide. The application of various imaging methods is also presented. Finally, the authors review several surgical procedures for correction of medial patellar subluxation.

Role of pathophysiology of patellofemoral instability in the treatment of spontaneous medial patellofemoral subluxation: a case report
INTRODUCTION Medial patellar subluxation is usually seen after lateral retinacular release. Spontaneous medial subluxation of the patella is a very rare condition. There are few reports in the literature on the pathophysiology of iatrogenic medial patellar subluxation. To our knowledge, there are no reports of the pathophysiology of non-iatrogenic medial patellar subluxation in the English lite...

In recent years, the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) has been considered as the primary restraint of the medial patellar stabilizers [1]. Clinical reports have revealed that MPFL injury occurs in almost all patients with traumatic patellar dislocation, and attention has been focused on the repair and reconstruction of the MPFL in recurrent patellar dislocation and patellar subluxation [2]...

CASE SUMMARY A 13-year-old domestic shorthair cat presented for evaluation of pain and difficulty ambulating. Orthopedic examination and CT facilitated a diagnosis of bilateral elbow synovial osteochondromatosis with medial humeral epicondylitis and concurrent osteoarthritis. Right humeroradial subluxation was evident on CT images, but no instability was evident preoperatively. Surgical treatme...
متن کاملMedial Closing-Wedge Distal Femoral Osteotomy with Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Imbrication for Genu Valgum with Lateral Patellar Instability
A varus-producing distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) is an effective technique for the treatment of lateral patellar instability (LPI) in patients with concomitant moderate to severe valgus malalignment. Patellar maltracking and subluxation are corrected via neutralization of some of the laterally directed forces on the patella due to the valgus deformity. This can be accomplished with a distal fem...

The medial patellofemoral ligament has been recognized as the structure primarily responsible for preventing patellar subluxation or dislocation.1-3 Anatomic dissection studies identified the medial patellofemoral ligament as a band of tissue connecting the femoral medial epicondyle to the proximal part of the medial edge of the patella (Figure 1).1-6 Imaging studies7-11 and surgical exploratio...
